The Admiral Stamps of Canada

Eight Cents

Date of Issue: 1 September 1925
Quantity: 24,200,000 (unofficial)
Method of Printing: Dry Process

Introduction

On 1 October 1925, the international postage rate was reduced from ten to eight cents. The blue eight-cents value was issued for that purpose. It was produced in sheet form only, Type D (400 subjects arranged 20 x 20), with plates numbered 1 to 3. See Summary for detailed information on the various plates.

Shades and Engraving Details

Only two shades are associated with this issue: Blue and Light Blue. The vertical lines are visibly strong in all four spandrels, reflecting perhaps the lessons learned from the previous engravings. In addition, the two bottom-most parallel lines, below the medals on the protrait, were lengthened with this engraving to the extent that they touch the strong diagonal line on their right. (See illustration.) Slight changes were also made to the dots underneath the diagonal lines (not visible in illustration).
