The Admiral Stamps of Canada

Ten Cents Bistre Brown

Date of Issue: 1 August 1925
Quantity: 89,713,000
Method of Printing: Dry process.

Introduction

The ten-cents bistre brown was issued in sheet form only. The first printings were from the last two plates used for the ten-cents blue, and three new plates were laid for the latter printings. See Summary for details of the plates.

The change in colour from blue to bistre brown stemmed from a decrease in the rate for foreign letters from ten to eight cents. Blue was then used for the eight-cent stamp to conform to the standards of the Universal Postal Union.

Shades

There are two shade variations: a lighter yellow brown from the early printings and a darker bistre brown from the later printings.
