Press Release
July 17, 2003 The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) elected one new Director and re-elected seven others during the Annual General Meeting held during ROYAL*2003*ROYALE in Hanover, Ontario, May 30–June 1, 2003. There were 10 nominees to fill eight Board of Directors positions. The vote tally had R. F. (Hank) Narbonne of Carleton Place, Ontario, the only newcomer, while Frank Alusio, François Brisse, Raymond Ireson, John Keenlyside, J. Edward Nixon, Elizabeth Sodero, and Ann Triggle were re-elected to serve two-year terms. Before the election, J. Edward (Ted) Nixon and John Keenlyside of Vancouver held executive positions of 1st Vice-President and Treasurer respectively. With re-election, they retain their spots on the Executive where each has responsibility for the Society’s finances. Raymond Ireson of Roxboro, Quebec, retains his appointment as Director in charge of Medals and Awards, and Elizabeth Sodero of Halifax will continue to work with The RPSC Slide Program. Ann Triggle of Clarence, New York, the only out-of-Canada member on the Board, will continue as American Philatelic Society Liaison. Frank Alusio and François Brisse are Directors without a specific portfolio. The new member of the Board, R. F. (Hank) Narbonne, retired from the RCAF in 1978 to take his hobby seriously as an executive member with stamp societies, as a jury member for stamp exhibitions, and as a dealer. Narbonne is also a recognized philatelic author who has co-written two editions of the Canada Post Official First Day Cover Catalogue and provided editorial board support to the last four issues of The Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps. His philatelic expertise has also been sought by numerous other publications. As a Director for the Society, Hank Narbonne will handle all matters having to do with newly-created position of Dealer Liaison. The RPSC President, Charles J. G. Verge, was pleased to see Narbonne elected. “His knowledge of philately and the esteem with which he is held among the dealers makes him a valuable asset to The Royal”, Verge said. Other members of the Executive of The RPSC include Rick Penko of Winnipeg as 2nd Vice-President, and Harry Sutherland as Secretary. Edmonton’s Keith Spencer is Immediate Past-President. A complete list of the Executive and Directors of The RPSC is attached.
