Members of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada who are recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee Medal

Mrs. Lola CARON, FRPSC

Mrs. Caron is the dean of philatelists in French Canada. She has been involved in philately since the 1930's, mainly in the city of Quebec but is also well known throughout Canada for philatelic endeavours that put her in contact with a lot of people. Mrs. Caron a past president of the Société d’histoire postale du Québec and is former member of the board of directors of the Fédération québécoise de philatélie. She is a strong supporter of Father Lafleur’s youth programmes. Mrs. Caron was, for a long time, secretary and administrative assistant for many high ranking civil servants and ministers in the Government of Québec, including the Honourable Pierre Laporte.

Andrew CHUNG

A postal employee, Mr. Chung has been instrumental in the resurgence of philately and stamp collecting in Hamilton and the surrounding areas. In addition to his extensive support to collectors in the area, he has been available, on a national basis, to help educate other postal workers on what stamp collecting and stamp collectors are all about. He has a particular interest in promoting the collecting of First Day Covers and postage due stamps. To this end he has written extensively in philatelic publications and has authored several monographs and is co-author of the official First Day Cover catalogue.

Wallace L. GUTZMAN

Mr. Gutzman has been involved in philately for over 65 years and has been an avid researcher and writer on many aspects of the hobby. He is the recognized expert on Canadian patriotic postcards having written many articles and the definitive work on the subject. He is a founding member of the 42 year-old Lakeshore Stamp Club in Montreal. Professionally Mr. Gutzman was a meteorologist who spent many years at Canadian bases in Newfoundland during and after WWII.

John I. Jamieson, FRPSC

Although Mr. Jamieson is the premier stamp dealer in Canada he is also a keen philatelist. He is recognized nationally and internationally as an expert and authority on Canadian stamps frequently being asked to adjudicate on the authenticity of stamps. In addition, he continuously shares information with collectors and is frequently known to pen articles that make them aware of new forgeries, fakes or fraudulent items or old ones that resurface. Mr. Jamieson’s integrity and professionalism are legendary and valued in the hobby.

Reverend Father Jean-Claude LAFLEUR, B. Th., FRPSC

Father Lafleur has been a priest for more than thirty years and considers philately his second calling. He has worked for more than 25 years among the young philatelists of Québec and it is thanks to him that the hobby is so popular with youth. The great number of young Canadians participating successfully in youth philatelic expositions throughout the world is proof that his seminars, his role as mentor and his personal help have borne fruit.

Cimon MORIN, FRPSC

Mr. Morin is Chief of the Canadian Postal Archives. As such, he is responsible for the acquisition, the conservation and the presentation of the Canadian Postal Heritage. For more than 30 years, Mr. Morin, a professional librarian, has been participating in domestic philatelic activities while ensuring the dissemination of information available at the Canadian Postal Museum and at the Canadian Postal Archives. His “magnus opus” is the Canadian Philately - Bibliography and Index, published in three volumes. It is an indispensable tool for all researchers in Canadian philately. His most recent achievement, the Canadian Postal Archives Web site, has just been awarded top prize in the philatelic Worlwide Website competition sponsored by the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie.

Kevin O’REILLY

The first name that comes to mind when talking of the philately of the Yukon, the North West Territories, Nunavut and the Eastern Artic Patrol is that of Kevin O’Reilly. He has been interested in these areas since his teen years and has put together award winning collections and written extensively on them including authoring books and monographs on the post offices and postal markings of these territories. Mr. O’Reilly is Research Director for the Canadian Artic Resources Committee and has served on the Yellowknife City Council since 1997.

Col. William G. ROBINSON, CD, BaSc, FRPSC

Col. Robinson is a former President of the Postal History Society of Canada, the British North American Philatelic Society and The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada. He is the only person to have held all three positions but also held them consecutively. Col. Robinson is a former public servant (National Parks Branch and Indian Affairs) and former Honorary Colonel of the 12th Vancouver Service Regiment. Col. Robinson is also a recipient of the Centennial Medal and the Canada 125 medal.

Mrs. Elizabeth SODERO

Mrs. Sodero is a Graduate from the University of King’s College and of Dalhousie University. A teacher by profession she has been heavily involved in her community including serving on the board of the Nova Scotia Prince Edward Scholarship Committee. She has held many positions in the Halifax Stamp Club including being the editor of their newsletter for 10 years. She is currently a Director of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada.

Charles J. G. VERGE, FRPSC

Mr. Verge is the current President of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and his heavily involved in the management of the stamp-collecting hobby in Canada for the last 20 years. He is the historian of the Society. He has been an important participant in the organization of the two latest World Philatelic Exhibition in Canada: CANADA 92 and CAPEX 96. In addition, Mr. Verge is a philatelic writer and promotes Canadian stamp collecting through his writings published in many journals around the world. He was the Coordinator of Reflections of Canada: The National Stamp Collection a permanent exhibition opened by the Prime Minister on July 1, 2002. He is a former senior public servant having worked at Human Resources Canada and Transport Canada for 28 years.
