March 9, 2001 Federation Internationale de Philatelie (FIP) President Knud Mohr, RDP will be among the special guests at ROYALE *2001* ROYAL, the 73rd convention and stamp exhibition of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC), scheduled for Montreal (Dorval) April 6-8. In making the announcement, Royal Philatelic Society of Canada President Charles J.G. Verge said "it will be a great honour to have Knud Mohr help us celebrate the 150th anniversary of the independence of the post office in Canada as well as the 150 anniversary of stamps in Canada. It is also fitting that we host Mr. Mohr on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the FIP." Mohr, who hails from Denmark, is expected to arrive in Montreal on April 5. He will take part in the launching of the Canada Post Corporation stamp featuring Canada's first stamp, the Three Penny Beaver. For the third time, the Three Penny Beaver is being re-issued as a stamp-on-a-stamp. He will also take part in the official opening of the convention. As well, there are plans to have Mr. Mohr meet with President and CEO of Canada Post Hon. Andre Ouellet PC, QC at a special reception in Ottawa on Friday evening April 6. The FIP head has been invited to give a seminar at ROYALE *2001* ROYALE on the future of exhibiting at the international level. Knud Mohr was elected president of FIP in December 1998 after serving eight years as vice-president. One of the world's outstanding philatelists, he has exhibited as a Large Gold recipient at international shows and won the grand prix International at BRASILIANA 93 in Rio de Janeiro. In 1993, Mohr was one of four signers to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists. The Roll was established in 1920 by the Philatelic Congress of Great Britain. King George V was the first signatory to the Roll. The current Canadian signatories to the Roll are Harry Sutherland, Kenneth Rowe, and Michael Madesker. The FIP, founded in 1926 and headquartered in Switzerland, is the international is the international body responsible for managing and regulating international philatelic affairs, including exhibitions and judging. It is the spokesperson for the philatelic community with other international organizations, such as the Universal Postal Union and the International Federation of Stamp Dealers.
