Press Release
February 21, 2001 The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada web site is boasting a complete make over. In making the announcement, RPSC President Charles J.G. Verge cited "the importance of such a communication tool in contemporary stamp collecting" He said "it will enhance what we are trying to do, not only for our membership, but for the hobby in general." Verge said a lot of work has been done to get the web site to where it is today. In mid-2000, D. Robin Harris of Adminware Corporation took over as The RPSC Webmaster. Harris provided further depth and a new dimension to the site, resulting in what Verge calls "a far more progressive showcase" for The RPSC. The web site has also recently undergone an address change, and can now be found at www.rpsc.org or www.philately.ca. Features of the new site focus on information on The RPSC, The Canadian Philatelist, an on-line library, chapters of The RPSC, stamp shows, a reference segment which is just being developed, and a site map. There are member links and other philatelic links. The philatelic literature component, for example, takes the viewer to numerous connections. Verge also stressed the role of Tony Brown in developing the site. He "has almost single-handedly produced original web site articles for the On-Line Library." The RPSC on-line library is a collection of "Exhibits" donated to The RPSC for the viewing pleasure of visitors to the site. In 2000, The RPSC web site was judged as deserving three stars in the 2000 Worldwide Website competition sponsored by the Federation Internationale de Philatelie (FIP). The judges said the library feature "separated our website from the-run-of-the-mill society sites." Verge looks to the next steps which will be to have the web site "translated" into Canada's second official language and to enter it again in the world wide competition in 2001. FOR MORE INFORMATION:
