June 21, 2000 (Toronto, ON) On April 28 in Winnipeg, Charles J.G. Verge, FRPSC of Ottawa was elected President of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada at its 72nd Annual General Meeting. Verge is a Fellow of The RPSC and has participated actively in organized philately in Canada and internationally as exhibitor, judge, writer and administrator. The Annual General Meeting saw the election of three new Directors and the re-election of three existing Directors. The new Directors are: Leon Balian of Pierrefonds, Quebec; F. Warren Dickson of Willowdale, Ontario; John M. Powell of Edmonton, Alberta. Re-elected as Directors were: J. Graham McCleave of Fredericton, New Brunswick; Kenneth Magee of Clinton, Ontario; and William G. Robinson of Vancouver, British Columbia. Robinson is a Past President of The RPSC. Yvan Latulippe of St. Joachim-de-Shefford, Quebec was appointed to complete the term of Father Jean-Claude Lafleur who resigned his position. Completing the list of Society Directors are: Ann Triggle of Clarence, New York; Elizabeth Sodero of Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Raymond Ireson of Roxboro, Quebec all of whom will serve the second of a two-year term. In addition to the election of Charles Verge, FRPSC as President, the Board also elected its full Executive, which includes two newly appointed Vice Presidents. J. Edward "Ted" Nixon of Toronto is First Vice President with responsibility on the Finance Committee. Winnipeg's Rick Penko, who is Second Vice President, will assume the role as Liaison with Canada Post Corporation. Rounding out the Executive are: John Keenlyside of Vancouver as Treasurer, Harry Sutherland of Toronto as Secretary and Keith R. Spencer as Immediate Past President. As Charles Verge moves into the position of President, he is "optimistic about the future of the Society." Verge hopes to increase membership and to give The RPSC a higher profile among collectors across the country.
