Press Release
June 12, 2000
Graham McCleave, Director of Conventions for The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC), has announced the locations and dates for the next few Royal conventions. The schedule appears as follows: 2001- Dorval (Montréal), Quebec; 2002 – Edmonton, Alberta; 2003 - Hanover, Ontario; 2004 – Halifax, Nova Scotia; and 2006 - St. John's, Newfoundland. That leaves 2005 unfilled. "It's open to first come, first served," says McCleave. The Royal is "enjoying a renewed interest in local clubs coming forward and offering to hold the annual national event." Conventions are now booked ahead for several years, which has not always been the case for The RPSC. Although The RPSC’s slate is almost complete to 2006, McCleave says, "we are always looking for additional convention sites." It is easy to become complacent and let important sites slip by. "We try to select places across the country to heighten interest, not only in The Royal, but also in collecting." He points to what holding ROYAL* 1999 * ROYALE did for his own club in Fredericton. "We got a lot more interest in stamp collecting in New Brunswick and everyone benefited." ROYALE * 2001 * ROYAL, which The RPSC will profile over the next several months, will be staged by the Lakeshore Stamp Club at the Centre Communautaire Sarto Desnoyers, April 6-8, 2001 in Dorval. It will feature the 73rd annual conference of The RPSC with seminars, exhibits, and a bourse. Show contact is David G. Nickson, C.P. # 1, Pointe Claire- Dorval, Quebec H9R 4N5. To obtain further information by e-mail, contact Francois Brisse <fsbrisse@videotron.ca>. Dates for Edmonton are March 22-24, 2002, and for Hanover May 30-June 1, 2003. Graham McCleave will gladly accept more bookings. He can be contacted at 186 Willingdon Street, Fredericton NB E3B 3A5, or by e-mail at mccleave@nbnet.nb.ca. FOR MORE INFORMATION: Michael O.
